Thigh Lift

A thigh lift is a body contouring procedure that allows patients who are bothered by disproportionately large, dimpled, and sagging thighs a way to slim and tone this problem area in a way diet and exercise alone cannot. At East End Plastic Surgery & Laser Center in Suffolk County, NY, board-certified Long Island plastic surgeon, Dr. Judy Emanuele can help patients achieve a defined, slim and taut thigh that will look great in tight jeans and bathing suits.

With age or significant fluctuations in weight, the skin and fat on the inner and outer thighs can begin to sag and droop, causing embarrassment and uncomfortable chaffing. A thigh lift can reduce and remove excess skin and fat in the thigh and knee area, helping patients lose inner thigh bulges, unwanted “saddle bags” and tightening the overall sagging skin in this area.

An inner thigh lift is performed with incisions over the inner thigh, hidden in the groin crease, and outer thighs are done with incisions extending from the groin around the back. These incisions are low enough that even a bathing suit can cover them. This procedure can be combined with liposuction if additional fat removal is desired.

Both men and women who have flabby, loose tissue and skin on their thighs may be candidates for a thigh lift. Whether the results you seek are subtle or dramatic, a thigh lift at East End Plastic Surgery & Laser Center can help you achieve a greater satisfaction with your appearance.

Commonly Asked Questions -- Thigh Lift:

How is a thigh lift surgery performed?

There are several ways in which a thigh lift procedure can be performed, depending on the specific areas of the thigh that need to be addressed.

An inner (medial) thigh lift involves incisions in the groin fold. This is the most popular type of thigh lift. It is best for people with a moderate amount of skin and fat in this area.

A vertical thighplasty involves a vertical incision that starts at the groin crease and extends to the inner knee. The scar is visible when the inner thighs are exposed such as while you are wearing a bathing suit or shorts. Individuals with more significant fat and loose skin may need a vertical thighplasty.

An outer thigh lift requires an incision that extends from the groin around the hip. A newer procedure called the spiral thighplasty targets the front, back, inner and outer thigh. The incision is below the buttock fold and continues over the groin crease at the junction of the thigh and pubic area. This cosmetic surgery procedure is ideal for people who have lost weight following bariatric surgery.

Who are the best candidates for a thigh lift?

The best candidates for a thigh lift are non-smoking men or women who are in relatively good shape but are bothered by a large, stubborn fat deposits and/or loose thigh skin that will not respond to diet and/or exercise and possess realistic goals for their cosmetic surgery. The drooping appearance of the thighs due to the loss of skin elasticity in older patients or those who have experienced significant weight loss can be significantly improved.

What are the risks associated with a thigh lift?

All surgery carries a small level of risk. A thigh lift, under normal circumstances, is very safe – patients are carefully selected, and East End Plastic Surgery & Laser Center is professionally staffed and properly equipped.

Post-operative complications such as infection and blood clots are rare. Infections are treated with drainage and antibiotics, but hospitalization, in rare instances, is required. Patients can minimize their risk of blood clots by moving around after surgery as soon as possible.

How much pain can a patient expect post-operatively?

The amount of pain associated with a thigh lift can vary. Some patients note a small to moderate amount of discomfort, while others report it to be more than that. Certainly there is some discomfort. Pain can be controlled with pain medication if necessary, prescribed by Dr. Emanuele.

What are the costs associated with a thigh lift?

The cost of a thigh lift, as well as any procedure or treatment at East End Plastic Surgery & Laser Center varies from person to person because each patient’s treatment plan is unique, customized for his or her specific cosmetic concerns and objectives.
