Commonly Asked Questions – Neck Lift

What is a neck lift?

If you are having a "skin-only" neck lift (cervicoplasty), two incisions will be made under or behind the ear to loosen the skin in order to reposition it and remove any excess. If you are having a platysmaplasty (neck muscle) with a skin lift, you may need a small incision under the chin along with the ones behind or under your ear. With a platysmaplasty, a section of the platysma (neck) muscle may be removed. Dr. Emanuele will rearrange and tighten the remaining muscle to improve the look of the neck and throat area. Dr. Emanuele will then loosen and redrape the neck skin as in a skin-only neck lift.

Who is the best candidate for a neck lift?

The best candidates for neck lift surgery are men and women who are physically healthy, have realistic expectations and do not smoke. Any individual that has sagging skin below the neck will see significant results after a neck lift performed by Dr. Emanuele.

Is it possible to have a neck lift and still have a natural look?

How long does the procedure take?

The duration of a neck lift procedure differs from patient to patient but usually takes a few hours.

Is neck lift surgery painful?

There is some discomfort after undergoing neck lift surgery, which can be lessened with prescribed pain medication. Some degree of swelling and slight bruising can be expected, but this is only temporary.

What is the downtime?

It is recommended that you do not resume normal activities for several days to one week post-operatively. Once a patient begins to heal, results will be immediately visible.
