Neck Lift (Cervicoplasty/Platysmaplasty)Just like the skin on the face, the skin on the neck loses elasticity with time and can make you look and feel older than you are. Dr. Judy Emanuele, the experienced plastic surgeon and medical director of East End Plastic Surgery & Laser Center (Riverhead, NY), understands the concerns associated with sagging neck skin, and can tighten and lift these muscles to achieve a slender, more youthful silhouette. Patients that are bothered by loose, hanging jowls (“turkey neck”) or an unwanted double chin will see significant results after a neck lift surgery. Whether the problem is age, genetics or skin laxity following a major weight loss, a neck lift consists of two procedures, cervicoplasty (used to remove excess skin) and platysmaplasty (removes or alters neck muscles). A neck lift can be performed as part of a facelift, or in conjunction with an eyelid lift or browlift. If a patient is looking to remove unwanted pockets of fat below the face, this procedure may be combined with liposuction of the neck. The addition of BOTOX® injections is recommended if unsightly “bands” in the neck are also among patient’s concerns. If you are having a platysmaplasty (neck muscle) with a skin lift, you may need a small incision under the chin along with the ones behind or under your ear. With a platysmaplasty, a section of the platysma (neck) muscle may be removed. Dr. Emanuele will rearrange and tighten the remaining muscle to improve the look of the neck and throat area. Dr. Emanuele will then loosen and redrape the neck skin as in a skin-only neck lift. Who is the best candidate for a neck lift? The best candidates for neck lift surgery are men and women who are physically healthy, have realistic expectations and do not smoke. Any individual that has sagging skin below the neck will see significant results after a neck lift performed by Dr. Emanuele. Is it possible to have a neck lift and still have a natural look? This is a common patient concern. Dr. Emanuele’s goal is always natural in that you will look like yourself – but a younger, more refreshed “you”! See patient Before/After Photos. How long does the procedure take? The duration of a neck lift procedure differs from patient to patient but usually takes a few hours. Is neck lift surgery painful? There is some discomfort after undergoing neck lift surgery, which can be lessened with prescribed pain medication. Some degree of swelling and slight bruising can be expected, but this is only temporary. What is the downtime? It is recommended that you do not resume normal activities for several days to one week post-operatively. Once a patient begins to heal, results will be immediately visible. What are the costs associated with a neck lift? The cost of a neck lift, as well as any procedure or treatment at East End Plastic Surgery & Laser Center, is unique because each patient’s treatment plan is unique, customized for his or her specific cosmetic concerns and objectives.
