Face Lift (Rhytidectomy)If you look older than you feel, the signs of aging on your face may be holding you back. Dr. Emanuele, the experienced plastic surgeon and medical director of East End Plastic Surgery & Laser Center on Long Island, has performed many successful cosmetic surgeries and will work with you to achieve a natural looking, refreshed, youthful appearance you deserve. Whether it’s sagging skin on the neck, deep forehead creases, crow’s feet or all of the above, facelifts tighten the facial skin and muscles with natural-looking results that non-surgical treatments simply cannot achieve. After facelift surgery by Dr. Emanuele, most patients look an amazing 10 to 15 years younger. A facelift can be combined with a browlift to correct a sagging or deeply furrowed brow or eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) to rejuvenate aging eyes. The procedure can be focused on the neck (neck lift) if the patient has a double chin or other problems centered there. Incisions are made in inconspicuous places behind the hairline and in natural folds of the face and ears, and scars usually fade to near invisibility with time. While a facelift cannot stop the aging process, in one sense, the effects are permanent, since your face will look better than it did before the procedure. In traditional facelift surgery, a simple incision is made around the ear and extends to the hairline behind the neck. Dr. Emanuele then extends the incision into deeper tissue to tighten it with a few simple stitches. If necessary, Dr. Emanuele can remove extra skin or re-drape it during facelift surgery to create a fresher, younger appearance. The benefit of a facelift is that incisions are virtually invisible and cannot be detected easily after surgery, but the effect (younger, tighter-looking skin) can be seen almost immediately after a patient recovers. Am I good candidate for a facelift? The best candidate for a facelift is an individual in overall good health, a non-smoker who has a positive outlook and specific, realistic expectations for their facelift surgery. Is it possible to have a facelift and still have a natural look? This is a common patient concern. Dr. Emanuele’s goal is always a natural appearance. You will look like yourself, but a younger, more refreshed “you”! What is the recovery time after a facelift? Most patients are able to resume their regular activities in about two weeks. How much pain can I expect after a facelift? The most common complaints are associated with mild tightness from bruising and swelling. As with any surgical procedure, some discomfort can be expected. All patients are provided with pain medication as needed after surgery. How long will the bruising and swelling last?Post-operative bruising and swelling will begin to subside after the first week, with full resolution at two to three weeks. Ninety percent of the final result is visible at three months. What are the costs associated with a facelift? The cost of a facelift, as well as any procedure or treatment at East End Plastic Surgery & Laser Center, is unique because each patient’s treatment plan is unique, customized for his or her specific cosmetic concerns and objectives.
