What is an eyelid lift (blepharoplasty)?

Blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) is a surgical technique used to improve the appearance of the upper and lower eyelids.  In the upper eyelid, excessive skin can produce large folds that if extreme can actually compromise a patient’s line of sight. There may also be bulging of orbital fat pads producing a puffy look. In the lower eyelid, bulging fat pads are usually the main problem.

Who is the best candidate for blepharoplasty?

The best candidates for eyelid surgery are men and women who are physically healthy and have realistic expectations. Any individual that has bulges, bags or drooping lids will see significant results after eyelid lift surgery.

Is it possible to have an eyelid lift and still have a natural look?

This is a common patient concern. Dr. Emanuele’s goal is always natural in that you will look like yourself – but a younger, more refreshed “you”! See patient Before/After photos.

Can I have both my upper and lower eyelids treated in one procedure?

Upper and lower eyelids can be treated together or done separately.  

How long does the treatment last?

The length of the procedure depends on whether both lower and upper eyelids are treated. The average treatment time is 90 to 120 minutes.

Is eyelid lift surgery painful?

Your eyelids may feel tight and sore as the numbing medicine from surgery wears off. This discomfort is easily controlled with pain medication.

What is the downtime?

Following eyelid lift surgery, you should be able to see well again after 2 to 3 days. It is recommended that you keep activities to a minimum for 3 to 5 days post-operatively.
