How is a breast augmentation procedure performed?

After careful consideration, you and Dr. Emanuele will select an ideal incision location, implant type, size, and shape for your breast augmentation. Breast enlargement incisions are made underneath the areola (a small incision right along the border of the nipple), in the underarm (transaxillary endoscopic breast augmentation, with no incision on the breast at all, using a special surgical camera called an "endoscope"), or hidden in the fold beneath the breast (an inframammary breast augmentation). The breast implants are most often placed below the chest (pectoralis) muscle (subpectoral breast augmentation, or submuscular breast augmentation). This gives the most natural shape and appearance and is the position least likely to form scar tissue.

Am I a candidate for breast augmentation?

The best candidate for a breast augmentation is an individual who is in overall good health, a non-smoker, has a positive outlook and specific, realistic expectations for their breast implant surgery.

How long does a breast implant surgery take?

The duration of breast augmentation surgery is usually less than two hours.

What is the recovery time for breast augmentation?

Most patients are able to resume their regular activities in about two weeks.

Is breast augmentation surgery painful?

Breast implant patients can expect some swelling, bruising and tenderness. Discomfort can be eased with prescription pain medication.
